Archipelago Trail and Archipelago Short Holiday

How about a mini holiday or weekend trip on the Archipelago Trail and a mini cruise in the Archipelago? Through Svanninge Hills to the market town of Faaborg, and the next day a trip to the Islands of Lyø and Avernakø in the South Funen Archipelago?

Day 1

Park your car in one of the free car parks in Faaborg - either the one opposite Hotel Færgegaarden on the street Chr. IX's Vej, by the old bus station, or the small one by restaurant Det Hvide Pakhus and restaurant Slagterens Spisehus.

Long term free parking.

You can take a Flextur Taxi to the village of Faldsled, where the Archipelago Trail begins - just behind Falsled Inn with a few metres to Faldsled Marina.

From Faldsled to Faaborg is 26 kilometres. The trail passes Trebjerg, which at 128 metres is the third highest point on Funen - over the beautiful Faaborg Golf Club course, Svanninge Hills, Svanninge Mountains - crossing the smaller hills 'the Sundbakkerne' with a fantastic view of Lake Sundsøen, Faaborg and the South Funen Archipelago.

The tour ends at the Bell Tower in the centre of Faaborg, where you can stay overnight at one of the town's hotels, bed and breakfasts or hostels.

Before enjoying an evening at one of the town's many restaurants, you can take a dip in Faaborg Fjord from Faaborg Harbour Bath, located just a few hundred metres from the old town.

Day 2

After a nice breakfast, head down to the harbour and the island ferry, which will take you first to the Island of Lyø and then to the Island of Avernakø - on the same ticket. You can buy tickets for the Faaborg III ferry online here.

The beautiful round island with the Bell Stone and Lyø Town with its five street ponds is said to be one of the most beautiful islands in Denmark. If you want to rent bikes on the island, you can do so at the harbour or at providers in Faaborg before departure.

If you fancy lunch, there are a couple of options on Lyø before you sail on to the eight kilometre long Avernakø - where you can also have lunch and dinner if you wish.

Depending on how long you want to stay on the islands, you can return to Faaborg several times a day during the week.

If you continue from Faaborg in the direction of the city of Svendborg, there are also accommodation options at Pipstorn Skov shelters and Nab Strand Camping. If you need other accommodation and more information about the archipelago trail, you can access them here.
