Summer Events at Kaleko Mill
Summer charm and living history at Denmark’s oldest watermill
Summer has arrived at Kaleko Mill, and Denmark’s oldest watermill is opening its doors once again. This season, you can look forward to a variety of changing activities throughout the summer months.
Nestled in the rolling South Funen landscape, the beautiful Kaleko Mill dates back to the 1400s. The last miller left in 1912, and since then the site has served as a museum, charming visitors of all ages with its unique atmosphere.
Bird Protection Foundation in Week 27
From Monday to Wednesday in week 27, the Bird Protection Foundation will be visiting, sharing knowledge about the birds that inhabit Danish nature. Their activities are suitable for all ages, offering fascinating insights into our feathered friends. The foundation also demonstrates how sustainability, targeted nature care, and biodiversity go hand in hand. And what better place for this than the lush surroundings of Kaleko?
The Nisse Gang at Kaleko
Many will recognise Kaleko from the outdoor scenes in DR’s beloved Christmas calendar series “Nissebanden”, first aired in 1984 and recently rebroadcast last Christmas. In the mill’s café, you can enjoy a small special exhibition featuring original props from Nissebanden. Do you remember Lunte’s cinnamon-sprinkling machine or Mr. Mortensen’s talking cheese? These delightful pieces are kindly on loan from prop master Bjarne Gadebusch.
Summer Activities at the Mill
Once again, you can enjoy a rotating selection of activities throughout the summer. Watch a woodturner at work, and learn how wool is crafted. Faaborg Snapselaug will also make an appearance, offering tastings of their unique local spirits, including their Øhavs Dram.
Arrive by Horse-Drawn Carriage
Most weeks, you can ride in a horse-drawn carriage between the central square in Faaborg and Kaleko Mill.
