Knitting and rosé wine
In the 1800s, it was almost unthinkable to see a woman without knitting in her hands – and often it was socks taking shape between the needles. Knitting could happen on the go, such as when walking out to the cows, and even in twilight the hands could work the needles, despite the scarce light. Wooden clogs wore down wool socks quickly, creating a constant need for new pairs or repairs of the old ones.
At "Knitting and Rosé" 2025
This year, the focus is on socks. The inspiration comes from a very special pair of socks knitted on the island of Lyø in 1861 by Maren Pedersdatter. The socks are decorated with a star pattern, and initials are embroidered – a personal detail that tells its own story.
Knit your own version of the lovely star socks, or whatever you feel like, on the terrace of the Archipelago Museum.
