The island Bjørnø
Bjørnø is situated in the South Funen Archipelago, 3.5 km south of Faaborg with about 32 residents. The island is roughly 3 km long. the trip from Faaborg, with a small ferry, lasts about 20 min. bjørnø is only 150 hectare so it is possible to walk around the island the coast in a couple of hours. The trip offers flat tidal meadows with a rich birdlife and high cliffs with the most beautiful view to Funen and the neighbours in the South Funen Archipelago. There is hedgerow, stone walls and - in the small village - beautiful old half-timbered houses.
The water surrounding Bjørnø attracts both anglers and bathers. There is no actual harbour on Bjørnø only a jetty which accomodates 10 boats. Bjørnø is very hilly including the highest point which is 24 metres above the ocean surface. A large number of aquatic- and wading birds are breeding on the tidal meadows and in the moor in the middle of the island. You can also meet the rare and preserved green-coloured beachtoads.
