Among sea trout anglers, Svelmø is also known as “mini-Æbelø.” Both islands share the fact that you need to wade a stretch – both in water and across land – to reach them. The trip to Svelmø is much shorter, only about 2.5 kilometers. The first part is through ankle- to thigh-deep water, then you continue dry-footed along a spit to the island itself. Show respect for the many nesting terns and gulls in spring. The coast along the island’s east side is very shallow, so the west side is the main attraction for sea trout anglers. The stretch from where the cliff begins all the way to the southern tip with the distinctive reef “Svelmø Trille” is excellent year-round. Best wind direction: northeast to east.
