Near Sønder Nærå on central Funen, Klitgaard Vin draws on more than 20 years of experience in viticulture. The winery has an ambition to create high-quality Danish wines with personality, complexity and a clear expression of their origin.

From gastronomy to his own winery

Winemaker Jacob Klitgaard is a trained chef and has spent many years working with wine and in the gastronomic industry. His experience includes working at several two- and three-Michelin-starred restaurants abroad before establishing his own small winery.

Today, wines from Klitgaard Vin are served at several of Denmark’s top restaurants and are sought after by both restaurants and wine enthusiasts. Several of the wines often sell out quickly, reflecting the interest in Danish wine at a high gastronomic level.

Organic vineyards and biodynamic principles

The wines are based on grapes from the estate’s own certified organic vineyards, which are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. The work centres on soil fertility, biodiversity and the interaction between soil, plants and climate. The aim is to create healthy vineyards and grapes with character and quality.

Grape varieties and wine styles

The varieties grown include Solaris, Ortega, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Précoce and Chardonnay. Klitgaard Vin works with different styles of wine, each placing particular demands on the grapes and the vinification process.

A significant part of the production consists of sparkling wines made from varieties including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, where extended ageing contributes complexity, depth and finesse. Barrel-aged white wines are also produced, allowing the character of the grapes to develop through the interaction with wood and time. Red wines from Pinot Noir Précoce are produced in particularly favourable years, when the quality of the grapes and the conditions of the vintage provide the foundation for wines with depth, balance and complexity.

Quality over quantity

In both the vineyard and the winery, the focus is on quality rather than quantity. The work requires care, experience and respect for the natural conditions, which vary from year to year. The aim is to create distinctive wines capable of finding their place among quality wines in restaurants and with wine enthusiasts.
