Svanninge Hills and Svanninge Bjerge together form one of Denmark’s most distinctive natural areas. Best known as Svanninge Hills, the area is part of the Fynske Alps and offers excellent opportunities for hiking on Funen, just outside Faaborg.

Nature and landscape

Until the early 1800s, the hills were open and covered with heath. Later, forest was planted on the poor soils. Today, efforts focus on preserving open grazing areas. From Lerbjerg, Funen’s fourth‑highest point, there are wide views across The South Funen Archipelago.

Hiking in Svanninge Hills

A well‑marked network of trails leads through hills, forests and open landscapes. Clear signage along the routes makes it easy to follow the different walking trails. Routes range from short walks to full‑day hikes. Benches at scenic viewpoints and an exhibition tower add to the experience.

Cycling and MTB in Svanninge Hills

Svanninge Hills are also popular for cycling and mountain biking. The area offers a varied network of MTB trails that make full use of the hilly terrain of the Fynske Alps. Cycling routes and local information are available at Faaborg Tourist Office.

Access and planning

Access to Svanninge Hills is via Odensevej, approximately 3 km north of Faaborg. Walks can easily be combined with nearby Arresø Skov. Free maps of the area are available at Faaborg Tourist Office.
